TCA Chemical Peel – Non-invasive Technique For Men & Women

Learn More About Chemical Peels

TCA chemical peels improves skin imperfections, erase minor wrinkles and reduce the signs of aging and sun damage.

A TCA chemical peel is an effective non-surgical, non-invasive skin resurfacing technique that because of the amazing and immediate results has gained recent popularity for both men and women.

TCA Chemical Peel

TCA chemical peels have been used to improve skin imperfections, erase minor wrinkles and reduce the signs of aging and sun damage. TCA achieves glowing, radiant and younger looking skin with the added benefit of building collagen. The TCA peel is ideal for skin revitalization as well as eliminating body blemishes.

Non-toxic

TCA contains a non-toxic chemical (trichloroacetic acid). TCA peels have been used effectively and safely by medical health care professionals for over two decades. The TCA peel is safe to use on all skin colors. The trichloroacetic acid that is used is similar to vinegar (acetic acid) and is a medium depth peel that ranges in different strengths from ten percent to fifty percent. When applied properly and by a trained professional, the peel will cause the topmost layer of skin cells to dry up and peel off. This drying/peeling process can take anywhere from a few days to a week. Then, once the old layer of skin has fallen off, a new healthy layer of undamaged skin will be left. Most patients who have undergone a TCA peel notice immediate and remarkable improvements in their skin, appearing fresher and smoother in texture.

TCA peels can significantly improve melasma or sun damaged skin in conjunction with topical prescription creams. In comparison to laser treatments, TCA peels are much more effective in treating melasma, and often only one treatment can result in remarkable results. Laser treatments can be difficult to administer and costly as more treatments are needed in order to achieve the desired results.

Benefits of a TCA Peel

TCA peels can be used to treat the skin on legs, arms, back, neck, chest, and face. In comparison to the use of laser treatments to enhance the skin, TCA peels can be quite cost effective when as they treat and cover a larger surface area at a lower cost.

Because of the ease of application, the almost immediate and stunning results, TCA peels are popular amongst clinicians and patients. Benefits of a TCA peel include:

  • Treat certain forms of acne and soften acne scars
  • Reduce age spots
  • Reduction in brown spots
  • Impart a radiant glow on the skin
  • Improve the skin texture of sun damaged, leathery skin
  • Proven solution in controlling melasma
  • Can also be used to fade tattoos

Considerations

Although chemical peels are non-surgical non-invasive applications, there are some considerations prior to committing to TCA Peel:

  • Skin should be free of active skin disease of infection.
  • Deep TCA peels may not be recommended for patients with darker skin or a history of pigmentation (hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, keloiding).
  • TCA peels may not be recommended for patients with severe acne.
  • Women who are pregnant or breast feeding should not be considered for TCA peels.
  • Depending on the type and intensity of the peel, your face will peel for a few days (5 – 7) and may appear unhealthy or unpleasant. You can work with your enhancement team to schedule a date and time where such peeling will be as convenient as possible.

Procedure and Application

First, your skin will be cleansed several times using alcohol, acetone, and/or liquid cleanser to ensure that all of the oil has been removed in order for the TCA peel to penetrate evenly. Dr. Craft will apply the TCA peel. In some cases, this process may involve 2 steps. During application of the peel, some patients report feeling heat on the skin or some minor stinging.

The solution is allowed to stay on the skin for a specified time in order to remove the layers of damaged skin. As your skin begins to dry out, the skin may turn white, a frost-like effect, or the skin may turn darker. Over the course of a few days, the skin will begin to peel off.

Your medical professional will provide precise after-care instructions after the peel treatment has been administered, but there are some general tips to follow. You may be instructed to gently wash your face every night with a mild cleanser before going to bed and apply a healing moisturizer. You may not wear makeup.

Your skin will also be temporarily drier after the TCA peel treatment, so you will need to steadily increase the use of moisturizing products after the TCA peel. Exposure to the sun must be avoided for two to eight weeks after the peel has been applied. If you notice any unusual side effects, or pain or discomfort that seems to worsen over time, please consult Body By Craft’s patient care team as soon as possible to avoid any unwanted complications.

Results and Outcomes

Expect peeling to last for about a week after a TCA peel has been applied. Your skin may also appear yellowish for a few hours after the treatment. The yellowish color will then fade, and will appear redder and feel tighter for a few days after the treatment.

Because your skin will be sensitive following the TCA peel, sun exposure must be avoided during the healing process. Sun exposure should also be minimized for four to six weeks following the TCA peel. While the skin may appear as if it was sunburnt, there is no actual pain experienced.

As every individual heals differently, noticeably results vary in noticeability. Generally, results are visible after the old skin has peeled away, anywhere from seven to ten days. The initial results are only the beginning and you will notice skin improvement for the next one to two months.

Sun exposure will hinder the results, so it is best to avoid exposure to the sun after having undergone a TCA peel treatment and always protect your skin with a sunscreen. TCA peels can be administered ever three to six months in order to achieve optimal results. If you protect your skin results can last anywhere from six months to two years. The length of the benefits will depend on how long you continue to expose your skin to the sun, as well as the depth of the peel. A TCA peel can offer many benefits in removing damaged skin and leaving you with new radiant skin.
