How do I know if I'm a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?

Concerning all surgical procedures, your overall health picture is important. Your relative health can affect your risk for complications during surgery and can influence how your body heals following the procedure. Those who are most likely to experience slowed healing or elevated risk of complications are those who smoke cigarettes and/or drink heavily, individuals with high blood pressure, patients with medical concerns such as diabetes or heart disease and people who are significantly obese.

Clients inquire about the ideal age for potential surgical candidates. This can vary depending on the procedure and age will definitely be taken into consideration during your consultation. The above- mentioned health concerns may be more prevalent with increased age but not neccessarily.

An important factor for suitability is mental health and stability. During or immediately after any traumatic, stressful or emotional life-changes is likely not an ideal time to plan cosmetic surgery. It is important to remember that, though plastic surgery can produce dramatic results, the expectations must be realistic and goals clearly communicated before planning a cosmetic procedure. Discussing these expectations with your doctor is most definitely recommended prior to any commitment to surgery so that practical plans can be agreed upon.

What can I expect during my initial consultation?

One of our highest priorities is ensuring we have matched the right candidate with the right procedure. During your consultation with Dr. Craft, we want you to feel welcome to share all of your questions and concerns so that we can guide you well. Overall aesthetic goals will be discussed. Your Surgeon will examine your area of focus and talk about options best suited for you. With the help of computer imaging and enhancement, we can recommend specific plans to meet your needs. We will provide you with your personalized, surgical quote and tell you how to move forward when you are ready.

You may find it helpful to write down your questions beforehand and bring them with you the day of consultation. When you are ready to take next steps, we will provide a detailed, informed consent form to sign, which states you fully understand the details of your planned procedure.

What are the risks that come with cosmetic surgery?
Every surgical procedure carries inherent risk, regardless of the purpose for the surgery. Consequently, our professional staff works diligently to ensure your operation is executed as flawlessly as possible. This is why the meticulous examination of your medical history, as well as your current physical health, are some of the main factors we use in determining candidacy. Our ideal, surgical candidates have very low risk factors and the elite medical facilities where Dr. Craft operates are second to none- ensuring the utmost safety for all our patients.
What is the recovery process like?
Both the procedure and the patient are contributing factors when determining the recovery time. Depending on the procedure, some activity restriction and rest may be required to help ensure optimal healing and shorten the recovery process. As well, the patient’s overall health and constitution either facilitate or hinder recovery. During the consultation, Dr. Craft will discuss the recovery process with you in detail and can address specific concerns related to your situation and best planning for you. Following post-op instructions is very important and patients have a responsibility to adhere to those guidelines because health, safety, and satisfaction depend on it.
Should I expect to have scars?

As with any invasive surgery, incisions will be made and scars are to be expected. This is why we utilize advanced techniques that are designed to minimize and camouflage scarring as much as possible. Following surgery, it is natural for the scar tissue to be red for a few months, but after time, the color will begin to fade. Our incision techniques are designed to place minimal tension on the skin. The size and placement of incisions are discrete and follow up care after your procedure helps us to keep an eye on your progress.

We provide all of our patients with ongoing instruction to minimize color and texture of scars as they mature and fade- throughout the first year.

How long will my cosmetic surgery results last?
Plastic surgery is permanent. However, it is important to note that appearances continue to change. It is beneficial to always maintain a healthy lifestyle- ensuring a graceful aging process. We recommend that cosmetic surgery patients be mindful about maintaining a healthy body weight and eating well. Undergoing a tummy tuck or liposuction procedure can help you attain your ideal figure, but maintaining that figure is up to you. Likewise, facelifts can make your face look years younger but if you spend your days in the sun with no protection, you’ll soon see signs of damage and accelerated skin aging. At Body By Craft, we believe that optimal health harmonized with visible transformation is true artistry.
Will my insurance pay for my cosmetic surgery?
In some cases, insurance providers may cover the costs of reconstructive surgery; however, covering the costs of cosmetic surgery is indeed a rarity. If a patient has undergone a mastectomy, insurance providers will often cover breast augmentation surgery, recognizing it as a form of reconstructive surgery, rather than cosmetic. Providers are also known to pay for breast reduction procedures for individuals with back pain that is a result of heavy breasts. In fact, insurance providers, by law, are required to cover cosmetic or reduction surgery when required to create symmetry in the breasts. Should your surgery be covered by insurance, the financial responsibility will be yours to cover all surgical fees upfront. We do not accept insurance payments, however it may be possible to speak with your insurance company if you wish to recover these fees after surgery from them. The billing claims will be up to the patient to file, as we do not have an insurance billing department in house.
Is my procedure expensive? Do you offer financing plans?
Each procedure we offer is priced individually so as to offer a custom, tailored plan for each individual patient. We strive to make cosmetic surgery as affordable as possible for our clients. We encourage people to view cosmetic surgery as a permanent investment in their future aesthetic and one that will be enjoyed and appreciated each and every day. Costs can be discussed during your consultation and we happily provide financing through Care Credit and Alpheon – a credit card specifically designed to cover health care costs, which allows you to make convenient monthly payments and provides unique financing options. Cosmetic surgical procedures have become more affordable and more accessible in recent years, offering safer, more natural-looking results than ever before.
