Sculptra® – Subtle & Gradual Facial Transformation

Learn More About this Dermal Filler

Sculptra can repair nasolabial folds, diminish acne scars, add volume, boost lips, and many other enhancements.

Sculptra injections are a non-surgical treatment option that enhances the overall appearance of the face by lifting sagging skin, smoothing wrinkles and ‘lifting’ or contouring the face. Sculptra works subtly and gradually over time.

Sculptra®

Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra stimulates and encourages your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging. Sculptra is dermal filler that is injected under the skin. Sculptra can also repair nasolabial folds, diminish acne scars, add volume and boost lips, develop or augment chin and nose shape and contour, plump up tear troughs and sunken cheeks.

Sculptra injections offer a non-invasive non-surgical treatment for those patients who want to develop and enrich the overall appearance of their face but are not ready for more invasive treatments.

Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will work with you to create a non-surgical plan to enrich the overall appearance of the face using Sculptra.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid

There are many dermal fillers on the market, however, Sculptra differs in that it contains poly-L- lactic acid or PLLA, a synthetic form of lactic acid. Lactic acid is a natural occurring acid made in our muscles after exercise. Sculptra can also be easily injected and applied to repair wrinkles and marks on shallow and fine skin such as around the eyes, mouth and lips. Sculptra works by adding volumes to areas on the face to smooth out wrinkles and lines and add volume. When injected, the acid also makes skin look fresh and bright by encouraging water to the surface of the face.

Non-invasive Treatment

Procedure

Sculptra® injections

Sculptra injections are a non-invasive non-surgical procedure that is generally completed within a half hour. Sculptra injections can include anywhere between seven and twenty small injections.

Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will work with you to identify the problem areas to be treated with the Sculptra injections. Dr. Craft may also consider Sculptra injections in combination with other enhancement injections. If necessary, you may be injected with lidocaine to freeze the areas that will be injected. Dr. Craft will then inject Sculptra into the appropriate areas.

You will notice results immediately. There may be some minor swelling and bruising but after the procedure you can return to your everyday activities. After the injections, you will minimize exposure of the treated area to the sun for 24 hours. Depending on the areas treated and your specific skin condition, Dr. Craft will explain after care to you following the procedure. Specifically, to decrease the risk and intensity of bruising, stay away from aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E for at least one week before your procedure. You can apply ice following the procedure to minimize and swelling and discomfort.

Things to consider

Although Sculptra injections are non-invasive procedures, there are some considerations before choosing Sculptra injections including:

  • Sculptra injections should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components.
  • Sculptra injections should not be used on areas that are irritated or infected.
  • Sculptra injections should not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Sculptra injections should not be used in people under 18.
  • Sculptra should not be used on anyone that is allergic to lidocaine.

The most common side effects for Sculptra injections include minor swelling, bruising or discomfort to the treated area. There have also been a few reported cases of blindness and nerve paralysis. In extremely rare cases, a blood vessel can be accidentally ruptured leading to necrosis (tissue death), embolism or infraction. Hyaluronic acid fillers can cause small bumps to appear under the skin, however, the Sculptra formula generally avoids this side effect.

Before Sculptra injections you will discuss your goals and medical history with Dr. Craft and your enhancement team. It is important that during this time you discuss any chin or neck surgery you’ve had, any cosmetic enhancements you’ve had done to your face, neck or chin and your medical history.

faq

Why can’t I get Sculptra injections if I am pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant?
Answer: Studies exist on the effects of Juvéderm injections on pregnancy or the fetus’ health. It is best to wait two to three months after delivery to initiate Juvéderm injections. Dr. Craft can more thoroughly explain considerations for pregnant women or women planning on becoming pregnant during a consultation.
How many injections will I receive?
Answer: This depends on the amount of augmentation, the size of the area and your requested results. Generally the amount of injections per session is anywhere from 15 to 30. Dr. Craft will explain the number and locations of the injections to you more thoroughly during your consultation.
Do the injections hurt?
Answer: The injections are small but some patients report a mild burning immediately after the injections that subsides within 10 to 15 seconds. Once the mild burning stops there is moderate discomfort. Many patients report very little to no discomfort. The amount of discomfort experienced is really individual and dependent on your pain tolerance, the amount of fat in the area and your skin. Dr. Craft will explain the injections to you more thoroughly during your consultation.
Is Sculptra safe?
Answer: Sculptra is FDA approved and has been safely used since 1999.Sculptra unlike other fillers does not require any allergy testing but is not suitable for individuals with allergies to lidocaine. As Sculptra injections are much more difficult to inject than some of the other fillers, an experienced and trained injector is highly recommended.
