What is Voluma®?
Voluma injections are a non-surgical treatment option that enhances the overall appearance of the upper face by adding volume and ‘lifting’ or contouring the face. Voluma is a dermal filler that is injected under the skin. Due to age related skin and tissue changes, cheeks can become sunken with sagging skin and unattractively slender.

Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will work with you to identify problem areas and create an enhancement plan. Voluma injections can provide many benefits and including:

Simple, Half-Hour Procedure
Consultation & Injections
Voluma injections are a non-invasive non-surgical procedure that is generally completed within a half-hour. Voluma injections can include anywhere between seven and twenty small injections. Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will work with you to identify the problem areas to be treated with the Voluma injections. Dr. Craft may also consider Voluma injections in combination with other enhancement injections. Once you are in the office and the enhancement team has set up, Dr. Craft will then inject Voluma into the appropriate areas.
Treatment & Recovery
You will notice results immediately. There may be some minor swelling and bruising but after the procedure you can return to your everyday activities. After the injections, you will minimize exposure of the treated area to the sun for 24 hours and minimize strenuous activity.
Depending on the areas treated and your specific skin condition, Dr. Craft will explain after care to you following the procedure. Specifically, to decrease the risk and intensity of bruising, stay away from aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E for at least one week before your procedure. You can apply ice following the procedure to minimize and swelling and discomfort.

What to Consider
Although Voluma injections are non-invasive procedures, there are some considerations before choosing a liquid facelift including:
- Voluma injections should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components including lidocaine.
- Voluma injections should not be used on areas that are irritated or infected.
- Voluma injections should not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Voluma injections should not be used in people under 21.
- Tell your doctor if you have a history of pigmentation changes or excessive scarring.
Side effects to look out for
The most common side effects for Voluma injections include minor swelling, redness, bruising, discoloration, itchiness or discomfort to the treated area. Voluma fillers can also cause small bumps to appear under the skin.
These common side effects generally disappear within two weeks. There have also been a few reported cases of vision problems. In extremely rare cases, a blood vessel can be accidentally ruptured leading to necrosis (tissue death), embolism or infraction.
Before Voluma injections you will discuss your goals and medical history with Dr. Craft and your enhancement team. It is important that during this time you discuss any face surgery you’ve had, any cosmetic enhancements you’ve had done to your face, neck or chin and your medical history, including medications.
Ongoing Treatments
Voluma injections are not permanent and ongoing treatments are necessary to encourage continually optimal appearance. However, unlike many other enhancement injections, Voluma lasts a lot longer – up to two years.
Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will inform you of the timelines and can work with you to set up a procedure schedule as necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I am having side effects after the procedure, when should I call my enhancement team?
Some minor side effects are normal after injections. However, follow up with your enhancement team if:
- You experience any minor side effects that last longer than four days (swelling, redness, pain etc.)
- You experience moderate to significant pain from the injection sites.
- If you have bumps or lumps in the skin after four days.
- Any other adverse effects that last for four days or longer.
