overview
What is Restylane®?
Restylane injections are non-surgical treatment options that enhance the overall appearance of the face by lifting sagging skin, smoothing wrinkles and ‘lifting’ or contouring the face.
Restylane is a dermal filler that is injected under the skin. Restylane can also repair nasolabial folds, diminish acne scars, add volume and boost lips, develop or augment chin and nose shape and contour, plump up tear troughs and sunken cheeks.
Restylane injections offer a non-invasive non-surgical treatment for those patients who want to develop and enrich the overall appearance of their face but are not ready for more invasive treatments.
Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will work with you to create a non-surgical plan to enrich the overall appearance of the face using Restylane.

Hyaluronic Acid
There are many dermal fillers on the market, however, Restylane is one of the thinnest and lightest dermal filler formulas. The lightness of Restylane is advantageous as it diminishes common minor side effects including bruising and bumps. Restylane can also be easily injected and applied to repair wrinkles and marks on shallow and fine skin such as around the eyes, mouth and lips.
Restylane is a synthetic hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid natural occurs in human bodies and is found in the fluid surrounding the eyes, in cartilage and joints and in skin tissue. Hyaluronic acid is also injected into damaged joints to increase padding in the joints. Synthetic hyaluronic acid can be injected into the face. When injected the acid acts like an expanded pillow supporting facial skin and tissues that have lost plumpness or smoothness because of aging of environmental damage. When injected the acid also makes skin look fresh and bright by encouraging water to the surface of the face. The gel fragments in Restylane attract and attach to water molecules as they lower, maintaining results for about six months.

Restylane Injections
Consultation & Injections
Restylane injections are a non-invasive non-surgical procedure that is generally completed within a half hour. Restylane injections can include anywhere between seven and twenty small injections.
Dr. Craft and your enhancement team will work with you to identify the problem areas to be treated with the Restylane injections. Dr. Craft may also consider Restylane injections in combination with other enhancement injections. If necessary, you may be injected with lidocaine to freeze the areas that will be injected. Dr. Craft will then inject Restylane into the appropriate areas.

The right choice
What to Consider
Although Restylane injections are non-invasive procedures, there are some considerations before choosing Restylane injections including:
- Restylane injections should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components.
- Restylane injections should not be used on areas that are irritated or infected.
- Restylane injections should not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Restylane injections should not be used in people under 18.
Side effects to look out for
The most common side effects for Restylane injections include minor swelling, bruising or discomfort to the treated area. There have also been a few reported cases of blindness and nerve paralysis. In extremely rare cases, a blood vessel can be accidentally ruptured leading to necrosis (tissue death), embolism or infraction. Hyaluronic acid fillers can also cause small bumps to appear under the skin, however, the Restylane formula generally avoids this side effect.
Before Restylane injections you will discuss your goals and medical history with Dr. Craft and your enhancement team. It is important that during this time you discuss any chin or neck surgery you’ve had, any cosmetic enhancements you’ve had done to your face, neck or chin and your medical history.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I get Restylane injections if I am pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant?
Studies exist on the effects of Restylane injections on pregnancy or the fetus’ health. It is best to wait two to three months after delivery to initiate Restylane injections. Dr. Craft can more thoroughly explain considerations for pregnant women or women planning on becoming pregnant during a consultation.
How many injections will I receive?
This depends on the amount of augmentation, the size of the area and your requested results. Generally the amount of injections per session is anywhere from 15 to 30. Dr. Craft will explain the number and locations of the injections to you more thoroughly during your consultation.
Do the injections hurt?
The injections are small but some patients report a mild burning immediately after the injections that subsides within 10 to 15 seconds. Once the mild burning stops there is moderate discomfort. Many patients report very little to no discomfort. The amount of discomfort experienced is really individual and dependent on your pain tolerance, the amount of fat in the area and your skin. Dr. Craft will explain the injections to you more thoroughly during your consultation.
