What’s the Difference?
FUE vs FUT Hair Transplant
- During the FUE procedure, individual hair follicles are extracted one by one, to be later placed elsewhere on the scalp.
- With the FUT transplant, on the other hand, a long strip of the scalp is removed before individual follicles are separated from this strip. The follicles are then transplanted one by one elsewhere on the scalp.

FUT Hair Surgery
On the day of your FUT hair surgery in Miami, your scalp will be numbed with a local anesthetic, so you won’t feel a thing. Dr. Craft will then use a scalpel to carefully remove a narrow strip of healthy scalp from the previously determined donor site. This strip usually measures 1cm in width and can be up to 30cm in length, containing thousands of healthy hair follicles. Once removed, the strip will be placed in a special solution that mimics the body’s natural fluids, – the solution will keep the tissue alive and prolong the life of the follicles.
Next, Dr. Craft and his hair transplant team will carefully excise hair follicles from the strip, one by one. This process takes several hours and requires extreme precision, as it is done carefully under high power magnification. Finally, the extracted follicles will be implanted one by one into the target areas on the scalp.
Follicular Unit Transplant Recovery
For several days after the surgery, a soft dressing will be applied to protect the donor site at the back of your scalp. After the area heals sufficiently, you will be able to return to work and get back to your normal routine, – this usually takes between 7 and 10 days.
During this time, the hair grafts will fully “set” in the treatment area. After about two weeks, the newly grafted hair will begin to shed, which usually continues for another 1 to 2 months, – this is normal and does not mean that the treatment failed. Be patient: in 2 to 5 months, you will start noticing new, permanent hair growing back.
