Restore Your Pre-Baby Figure: Miami Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Pregnancy and childbirth are two of the most intimate and wonderful life experiences that you can experience as a woman, but they also change your body physically in ways that are not quite positive. Fortunately, a Miami tummy tuck is a popular plastic surgery that can restore your pre-pregnancy figure and have you feeling physically attractive again.

After Pregnancy

Like many other women, after giving birth once or multiple times, you work hard to lose the extra weight that was gained over the past 9 months, but you never really go back to your pre-baby figure because of the excess, sagging abdominal skin and fat. Unfortunately, this stubborn pouch does not disappear with exercise and/or diet. There are two contributing factors to this 1) the pouch is mostly excess skin that has no where to go and 2) diastasis recti.

Diastasis recti is a condition when the right and left abdominal muscles are spread apart. As the baby develops and your uterus expands, the tissue that connects the two halves of the abdominal muscles stretches. When the widening of the midline is more than two centimeters, it is considered a problem and should require medical intervention because the abdominal wall weakens and no longer supports the torso and internal organs.

Standard Miami Tummy Tuck

A standard Miami tummy tuck is designed to remove excess skin and fat, tighten the abdominal muscles and contour the lower abdomen – therefore, it addresses both issues that are contributing to the potbelly appearance. There are a few variations of a tummy tuck procedure which depends on the presence of diastasis recti, the severity and how much excess skin or fat you have. In the traditional, full tummy tuck surgery, a horizontal incision is made between the belly button and pubic bone.

The size of the incision can vary from a few inches to the entire length of your abdomen depending on your body and its needs. Next, the skin is pulled back, the excess fat is removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened. Afterwards, the skin is pulled down and a new belly button is created if necessary. Any excess, hanging skin is removed at this point of the procedure. The final result is a tight, flat tummy with no more flabbiness. There will be a scar from the tummy tuck surgery, but it is usually low and easily hidden by clothing or swim wear.

Recovery Times

Although, it is quite a routine procedure, a tummy tuck is rather extensive and can results in relatively longer recovery times and discomfort. Most patients expect a minimum of 10-14 days for rest and healing before returning to normal activities.
